At the heart of all GORE-TEX® materials is an extremely thin, durably waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane. It contains over 1.4 billion micropores per square centimetre.
These microscopic pores are about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water. This makes the GORE-TEX® membrane absolutely waterproof. But because the pores are 700 times larger than a water vapour molecule, they allow perspiration to escape unhindered.
Children's feet have just as many sweat glands as adults' feet, but on a much smaller area of skin. They also move around a lot more than adults – often near puddles, streams or in the rain.
